Traffic figures 2025 | Preview of summer 2026 | Non-aviation development | New governance structures

Feldkirchen bei Graz, 20 January 2026

Graz Airport looks back on a successful year in 2025 and strengthens its structures.

• Positive results achieved in both scheduled and charter traffic, as well as the cargo segment.

• Upcoming summer travel season once again offers wide choice of destinations – including new holiday destination Olbia.

• In parallel, focus on key non-aviation areas, particularly pursuit and implementation of sustainable contributions to the environment.

• At start of 2026, Airport subgroup assigned to “Mobility & Leisure” Division of Holding Graz.

• Together with newly established Supervisory Board, Graz Airport to be further promoted as modern location in southern Austria for mobility, economy and energy.

Graz Airport: sustained growth in 2025

Graz Airport looked after 831,095 passengers last year, just under 12,000 more than in 2024. This was mirrored by a 0.6% increase in scheduled traffic, while charter traffic was again the main driver of development with an almost 4% increase. In cargo the airport achieved a pleasing record with 19,500 tons.

“In this environment, which is challenging for regional airports in particular, we are very satisfied with the development”, declared Wolfgang Grimus, Managing Director of Graz Airport. “In the last three months, the scheduled segment has shown a clearly positive trend, giving us confidence for 2026. With London, we have an additional scheduled connection in the upcoming summer flight plan, for which there has been a good demand up to now. In the private travel segment the desire to travel is uninterrupted, whether for beach holidays or city breaks. The number of foreign guests coming to Graz and Styria via our airport is also continuously increasing. And with the recently opened Koralm Railway, Graz Airport is becoming central as a mobility hub for Austria’s Area South.”

Development of non-aviation and major steps towards climate neutrality

Graz Airport is consistently developing beyond its classic function:

In 2025, Graz Airport once again succeeded in positioning itself as an event location, with trade fairs such as ReiseZeit from GRUBER-reisen – the largest travel fair in south-east Austria; the gourmet event Vollmund; or the major ACstyria Mobility Congress Contact with 750 international decision makers and experts, as well as the exhibition featuring 86 companies and institutions. In the Human Resources area the airport recently accepted the BGF seal of quality for a further three years.

Following the major milestones in the recent past – the electric ground power supply, the expansion of EV charging points and the completion of the PV system on the parking garage roof – the near future will see among other things the switchover to LED in the large equipment hall and glider hangar, as well as the acquisition of an electric vehicle for the apron coordinator, an electric drinking water vehicle and two electric conveyor belts.

At the end of last year, the airport was again the proud recipient of an ÖKOPROFIT award, the twenty-seventh in total.

An important next step is the planned ground-mounted photovoltaic system on the airport premises. With a capacity of around 16 MWp in the first expansion stage, it represents more than 50 percent of the largest individual measure in the city’s PV Masterplan. The system will take up around 11 percent of the airport’s grass areas, and will make a substantial contribution to the regional energy supply.

“Naturally the traffic development is our backbone”, states Jürgen Löschnig, Managing Director of Graz Airport. “But we must also not ignore other topics. So last year once again we were able to set a few things in motion to benefit the environment. The greatest highlights are definitely the electric ground power supply, which we were the first Austrian regional airport to implement, and the PV system on the parking garage roof, which supplies the electricity we have generated ourselves directly to the ground power supply, among other things.”

New Executive Director and establishment of a Supervisory Board

After Wolfgang Malik’s retirement at the end of 2025 from his functions for the operational Holding Graz and the airport’s general assembly, at the airport’s general assembly the responsibility from 2026 was passed to Mark Perz, Executive Director of Holding Graz for Mobility & Leisure. In addition, to further the airport’s strategic development – particularly in the context of the Area South – Holding Graz has again established a Supervisory Board with proven aviation experts. Together with the airport management, its focus is on economically and strategically positioning Graz Airport as an efficient, internationally networked hub.

Manfred Eber, City Councillor for Participation: “Graz Airport is indispensable for our city and for southern Austria. It connects the people of Graz with the world, and at the same time is an important node for the economy and tourism. The positive figures from 2025 clearly show how much the airport contributes to the attractiveness of Graz as a residential and economic location. I am especially pleased that alongside growth, the focus is also on sustainability – such as with the PV system on the parking garage roof and the new electric ground power supply. This is a good route for the future, which will also pay off from an economic perspective.”

Gert Heigl, CEO Holding Graz: “Since the acquisition in 2004 of the federal and state governments’ shares, the airport in Graz has developed into a major asset of the city of Graz and of Holding Graz. This positive development is also reflected in the 2025 figures: both the increased passenger numbers and the record result in the cargo area show that Graz Airport plays an important and indispensable role for Styria’s economy and tourism. As a regional airport it ensures that companies are accessible internationally, supports the export economy, attracts investors and professionals, and strengthens tourism.”

Mark Perz, Executive Director Holding Graz: “The airport is the Styrian mobility hub, whose attractiveness extends far beyond the state’s borders. Thanks to the Koralm Railway and the soon-to-be-completed Semmering Tunnel, this hub is positioned at the heart of one of the most dynamic economic areas in central Europe. I am delighted at the sustained upward trend of the leading airport in southern Austria, and thank the management and all the team for their work in 2025. Organisationally the airport has belonged to the Mobility and Leisure Division of Holding Graz since 1 January 2026. My team and I will provide the airport with the best possible support in all matters in the future.”

Wolfgang Malik, chairman elect of the Supervisory Board of Graz Airport: “With the growing catchment area and in the climate of an expanding logistics centre, our airport, which we are happy to see described as the “airport of short distances”, is the key factor for an attractive location quality. So our task will be to impartially promote this development even more strongly, and certainly with the strategic involvement of stakeholders. Optimal international accessibility will safeguard the country’s jobs and ultimately reinforce the high quality of life in and around Graz. Thanks to innovative technologies in aviation and numerous sustainable projects, our airport is not only a significant economic factor for southern Austria, but has also now become a central element of the climate protection plan of the city administration and municipal companies. I am convinced that with strategically committed, multi-crew control the “jewel box of the Styrian economy” will successfully continue its upward trend.”
