Feldkirchen bei Graz, 31 May 2022: On the last Thursday in June, up to 500 runners will have an opportunity to explore the airport in a somewhat unusual way. During the first Graz Airport Run, they will run around 5.8 kilometres in the immediate proximity of the runway – and for a good cause, as the entry fees will benefit Steirische Kinderkrebshilfe (Styrian Children’s Cancer Aid).
“The last couple of years have shown us particularly clearly how important health is”, explain the Managing Directors of Graz Airport, Wolfgang Grimus and Jürgen Löschnig. “This run gives us an opportunity of presenting the airport from a new perspective, while at the same time supporting an important Styrian organisation in its work. The course of 5.8 kilometres has been selected so that even running novices can manage it comfortably. We are sure this run will be a big hit!”
Councillor for sport Kurt Hohensinner: “The past year in Graz has been filled with sport. With ‘Let’s Go Graz’ we got the whole city moving, and converted many people to having fun by doing more exercise and sport. We want to continue down this route. As well as support for the infrastructure and funding for clubs, above all we also need some flagship projects that will motivate people to get involved. With the Airport Run we have succeeded in creating just such a flagship, and I am sure that many people will take up this unique opportunity of participating in a running event with this unrivalled atmosphere.”
Doing good by running: The whole of the entry fee (€20 to €25 per person) will go directly to Steirische Kinderkrebshilfe (Styrian Children’s Cancer Aid). “The motto of Steirische Kinderkrebshilfe is healing and help as the goal”, says Univ.Prof.Dr. Martin Benesch, head of the Department of Paediatric Haemato-Oncology at University Hospital Graz, and a member of the management board of Steirische Kinderkrebshilfe. “By entering the Airport Run, hopefully the participants will not only achieve the goals they have set themselves, but they will also help the Kinderkrebshilfe take another step towards putting this motto into practice.”
The unique running event is being organised by HIKIMUS Event & Werbeagentur, which has fine-tuned the concept in recent weeks together with Graz Airport. The media partner is Woche Steiermark.
