The airport in Graz has further extended its PV areas. On the roof of the parking garage alone, around 500,000 kWh of electricity per year is now being generated.
Feldkirchen bei Graz, 19.12.2024: Following the PV system on the fire department roof around a year ago, the new system on the roof of the parking garage is now also going on-grid. For Graz Airport this a further important step towards CO2 neutrality.
There has also been a lot happening at Graz Airport this year apart from flight traffic. Among other things, a large amount of time and money were invested in reducing the CO2 emissions. Even more LED lighting now illuminates terminals, offices and a variety of other areas. In the summer, the alternative fuel HVO 100 was introduced, which saves around 85% of CO2 compared to traditional diesel. The first part of the works on switching over the ground power supply from diesel to electricity was completed, the number of EV charging points for customers and employees was doubled, and now the new PV system on the parking garage roof has also been connected to the grid.
“This year we have again come a good deal closer to CO2 neutrality”, is the delighted summary by Wolfgang Grimus and Jürgen Löschnig, the two Managing Directors of Graz Airport. “With the new PV system we are generating around 500,000 kWh of electricity, an amount which could supply about 200 two-person households.”
As recognition of the many projects implemented this year at Graz Airport, the airport has been honored to receive what is already its 26th ÖKOPROFIT award.
