In order to reduce CO2 and improve working conditions: Graz Airport modernised its ground power supply.
As the first regional airport in Austria Graz Airport has switched to an emission-free and silent ground power supply on six aircraft parking positions.
Feldkirchen bei Graz, 09.04.2025: On its way to the aspired carbon neutrality Graz Airport has made a further important step: On six parking positions a subterraneous 400 Hz ground power supply was established in the last few months. The power necessary to run the ground power units is partly produced by the new PV system on the roof of the car park that was directly integrated into the new system.
„The new ground power supply is not only an important milestone on our way to a green Airport“, the two managing directors of Graz Airport, Wolfgang Grimus and Jürgen Löschnig, are glad. „The working conditions of the ground staff are significantly improved on these parking positions too as they are not exposed anymore to the exhaust fumes and noise of the old diesel ground power units.
By implementing this measure about 24,000 litres less fossil fuel are used per year, which equals a CO2 reduction of about 79 tons.
