Midsummer with half a million passengers!

The travel bug continues uninterrupted. In the first seven and a half months of this year, Graz Airport recorded around a 20% increase in passenger numbers.

Feldkirchen bei Graz, 13.08.2024: To date around 500,000 passengers have used Graz Airport as their departure or arrival point, approximately 20% more than by this time in 2023. In contrast, the increase in movements is just under 10%, which clearly shows that the growth in passengers can be ascribed among other things to better utilisation of flights.

“The current year and the first half of the summer holiday traffic have developed very pleasingly in terms of passengers,” declares Wolfgang Grimus, Managing Director of Graz Airport. “We are assuming that holiday flights will continue to show good booking levels until the end of the season. Although the growth curve is slowly flattening out, this year we will have welcomed over 800,000 passengers in total.”

“Up to now the bookings in 2024 have more than fulfilled our expectations. Due to the good number of advance bookings that the sector is taking now for the coming months, we can assume that this trend will also last through to the end of the season,” says Max Schlögl, chair of the travel agency section of the Chamber of Commerce and Managing Director of Gruber Reisen.

The increases in the individual segments
Passenger numbers for holiday flights have increased substantially, with around 40% more passengers than by this stage in 2023 choosing a direct flight to one of the many holiday destinations offered from Graz. Particularly in demand were Antalya, Hurghada, Palma de Mallorca, Heraklion, Rhodes and Kos. Niche markets such as Kefalonia, Paros, Skiathos and Brac are also enjoying great popularity. In contrast, the increase in scheduled services is “only” around 15%, with passengers readily using scheduled flights not just for business travel, but also for flying to their holiday destinations. Direct flights between Graz and Berlin as well as Hamburg were especially popular with city break passengers in both directions. On the other hand, flights to the major hubs Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna and Zürich are often the starting point for long-distance travel around the globe.

Summer flight schedule August to end of October
Up to the end of September and into October there are still numerous options for taking off to one of the many holiday destinations from Graz, such as Antalya, Brac, Calvi, Kefalonia, Corfu, Larnaca or Rhodes.

Gruber Reisen is offering a series of special flights in the autumn, for example to Funchal on Madeira at the end of September/start of October, and to Paphos on Cyprus, Lisbon or Porto at the end of October.
